Disc One :: Opening Thoughts :: Exposure Control :: Gear (lights, stands, triggers, etc.) :: Modifiers (Umbrellas, soft boxes, grids, etc.) :: Indoor shoot and then 2 location shoots with the same client. During these shoots he methodically talk through his thinking process and how he is finding exposure and warming up to shooting and working with clients. Disc Two :: Zack Arias pick up the pace on Disc Two and they do a lot of shooting. You’ll follow Zack Arias on shoots with 3 individuals and one band. He is more in “shooting” mode than “teaching” mode on this disc but he is still talking through the process of what he is looking for in the final photo, how he is going to get there, what type of light and modifier he need to get the job done, and how to work with situations when things just aren’t perfect. Recreating Solar Eclipse in space

Here is one more tutorial about creating space landscape. It is not so difficult but very useful. I’ll teach you how to recreate solar eclipse in space.

So, let’s begin to recreate it! Set foreground color as #500000 and background color as black. After that apply Filter > Render > Clouds to our canvas.

To change the background color at the bottom of the picture apply Quick Mask Mode with gradient as below:

Then go back to Standard Mode. Now we have some selected area.

Change color of selected area with Image > Adjustment > Hue/Saturation with similar settings to these:

See the difference now?

Ok, move further. Remove the selection with Select > Deselect, after that create a new layer and fill it with black color. Apply Filter > Noise > Add Noise to this layer.

Change layer style to screen and use Image > Adjustment > Levels with next presets:

Now we have picture as below:

Ok, now select the Eraser Tool and a soft round brush and make a little clear work to get the result as on my picture below.

Time to recreate the solar eclipse. In the beginning try to find some appropriate texture of magmawhat we will use for the sun recreating. Feel free to use your own textures also. Open up this picture and copy to our main canvas.

Then get out the Elliptical Marquee Tool to create round selection as shown on the picture below. Invert selection with Ctrl+Shift+I and use Delete to clear selected area.

Remove selection with Ctrl+D and duplicate current layer using Ctrl+J. Ok, move to original lower layer and apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with similar settings to these:

Your result should be next:

Ok, apply Color Overlay layer style to this layer.

Use the Smudge Tool to create sunlight beams.

Ok, now move to copied upper layer again and start to process it. In the beginning select it withSelect > Load Selection and after that apply Filter > Distort > Spherize. Use next parameters for this filter.

Remove the selection. See the result below.

Then apply Inner Shadow, Outer Glow, Inner Glow, Color Overlay layer styles to this layer.

Looks better than before, don’t you think? Move to the next step. Create a new layer and use theElliptical Marquee Tool to create round selection, fill it with black color.

Deselect this layer with Ctrl+D and apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with next presets:

Your image should look as mine:

Ok, and the last one step that you need to do is to make optical lens flare. For this effect create a new one layer and will it with black color. Change layer mode for this layer to Screen and applyFilter > Render > Lens Flare:

Looks cool as for me!

We are done for now! Hope you have the same good result! Don’t be afraid to experiment and you will get the best results!

Here is new one tutorial for you how to make professional advertisement poster, which a based on color contrasts.

So, let’s start! First of all make a new document with the resolution 500×500 pixels for this tutorial. Select some appropriate colors, for example colors of #144499, #1375C4 and drag a linear gradient.

After that, I would like to add some gradients to our background. Create a new layer, then select theElliptical Marquee Tool and make selection, then fill it with white to transparent gradient as on my picture below:

Make a new one selection and fill it with the same gradient. Your picture should look as mine:

Make a new one gradient more.

Ok, looks good, isn’t it? Then remove the selection with Ctrl+D and change layer mode to Overlay.

The next step what we need to do is mark the area where we will put our advertised object. Select theElliptical Marquee Tool, make a rounded selection, and then fill it with color of #00387f on the new layer.

Deselect chosen area with Select > Deselect (or press Ctrl+D) and apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with similar settings to these:

You can see the result below:

Now get the Rectangular Marquee Tool (Feather: 5 px), make a new selection as on my picture below and press Delete to clear selected area.

Remove the selection with Ctrl+D, after that create a new layer, select the Polygonal Lasso Tooland make a new selection, then fill it with white color. Your image should look as mine:

Remove selection using Ctrl+D and apply Filter > Blur > Motion Blur:

Now we have something like this:

Then apply another one Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur:

See the difference now:

Ok, now set opacity up to 70% for this layer. Move to the next step. Now we need to find some appropriate picture, for example picture of iPod Nano, to bring it on the canvas. This picture must be contrast to blue color object, for example red. Use Google Images to find this picture or feel free touse mine. Then open it and use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to select the iPod on the picture. Then press Ctrl+C to copy selected part of image. Go back to our main document and press Ctrl+V to paste copied part of image in it. After that reduce it a little bit to give the same size as on my picture:

Now comes the important part, we need to make reflection for iPod. For creating this effect duplicate layer with iPod, flip it vertical with Edit > Transform > Flip Vertical and place it like on the image below.

We have some trouble with right earphone. Its reflection looks not so right. Ok, use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to fix this problem. Make the selection of this earphone and move it down as on print screen:

Looks better now as for me! Now set opacity up to 35% for this layer.

Use Quick Mask to hide reflection from the object on the floor progressively. Enter Quick Mask Mode, then get the Gradient Tool and make red to transparent gradient as on my picture below:

Then go back to Standard Mode. Now we have some selected area.

Press Delete to clear image into the area and press Ctrl+D to deselect area.

Ok, now we have so realistic view reflection. Hope you have the same result. Move to the next step. I would like to add some design elements to the background. For this you can use my brushes. Also you can use your own brushes if you want. Select the white color and make a couple of print using the Brush Tool.

After that get out the Custom Shape Tool and find some appropriate shape from the palette:

Drag it onto your canvas like I’ve done in the below screenshot. Use Ctrl+T to rotate it.

Add a few shapes more:

Ok, now go to the layer with iPod image and create a new one above, then get out the Elliptical Marquee Tool and create the rounded selection as on picture below. Fill this selection with white to transparent gradient. Now we have nice glare on the iPod.

After that go to the layer with iPod again and load it selection with Select > Load Selection, then press Ctrl+Shift+I to invert the selection. Then go back to the layer with white glare and pressDelete to clear selected area. Remove the selection with Ctrl+D.

To finish off the advertisement poster I would like to add some inscription. Get out the Horizontal Type Tool (just the regular one) and write out something like ‘FEEL THE SOUND’ with white color.

In the above image I’ve used a font called Academy (30 pt, Crisp), which is sadly a commercial font. Feel free to use another font or buy or ‘get’ a nice font from somewhere. Duplicate this text layer and rasterize it with Layer > Rasterize > Type. After that apply Edit > Transform > Flip Vertical and move it down as on my screenshot:

Apply Quick Mask Mode again with gradient as below for this layer:

Then go back to Standard Mode. Now we have some selected area like on picture below. PressDelete to clear selected area.

Remove the selection with Ctrl+D and change opacity to 55%.

We are done for this tutorial. We made cool professional advertisement poster, which a based on contrasts. Looks cool! Hope you like this tutorial very much!

Super star logo

Wanna be a super star? First of all, create your own cool logo! You don’t know how to do this? This Photoshop tutorial created special to help you.

Start by making a new document in Photoshop, something like 500×300 pixels and fill it with gradient (use colors of #c0cfcc and #e2e5de).

After that you should stylize your background. I think, the better way will be to add a couple of white lines to the background. To do this use the Pen Tool (select the Paths instead of Shape Layers) and draw such curve line as mine:

After hat get out the Brush Tool and a hard round brush about 1 pixel with white color. Then activate the Direct Selection Tool and right-click on the curve line, select Stroke Path as on picture below:

A little dialog box will appear as in the screenshot. Choose Brush and press OK.

See the result on my picture below.

Ok, now apply the Drop Shadow layer style for current layer.

Looks better than before.

Ok, move to the next step. Start with creating the logo. Use the Horizontal Type Tool to write down something like ‘SUPER STAR’ with white color. Actually, it does not matter what font color you will use.

In the above image I’ve used a font called AG ForeignerULB (65 pt, Crisp), which is sadly a commercial font. Feel free to try a different font such as Arial Black. Ok, before we start the next step we need to find some suitable texture which we will use later. I think, this one will be good for our tutorial. First of all we need to add the pattern to Photoshop patterns palette to use it for creating text effect later. Open the picture or find another one using Google Images and use Edit > Define Pattern to save this picture as pattern. Go back to our main document and apply the Gradient Overlay and Stroke layer styles for text layer.

Now, your image should now look like the image shown below:

Ok, I think it is very good logo. But it is unfinished yet. Something is missing? What exactly? Of course the stars! Select the Custom Shape Tool and select the standard Photoshop shape with next presets:

Print a couple of white stars on the words.

Ok, then merge all layers with stars and the text in one layer and apply the Drop Shadow layer style to new received layer:

Now, we have something like my picture below:

After that use Layer > layer Style > Create Layer to separate layer style to the new layer and transform it a little bit with Edit > Transform > Distort. The final picture should be the next:

I like it so much and what about you? Hope you like it to! Now, time to add the slogan to our logo. Select the Horizontal Type Tool again and draw out the text line in the bottom. I prefer to use theBickham Script Pro font, but if you don’t have it fell free to use another one. For this text line I used the color of #4f5e70:

To finish off the tutorial, I think, we should add a couple of stars to the background. Select the Custom Shape Tool again and the draw the stars.

Merge all layers with stars shapes in one, then go to the layer under and draw a little bit more black stars shapes.

Merge all layers with black stars shapes in one layer and change opacity to 10% for this layer.

Ok we are done! Our logo looks as real superstar logo! Hope you enjoyed this Photoshop tutorial!

Hello friends:

In this tutorial I am going to show you how to create a nice coke ad design. Before you read any further, take a moment to download these resources:

The two vector packs are available for you to buy in the Talk Mania shop. You can download them for $7.99 each or you can buy the big vector pack at a discounted price of $99.

Step 1
Open a new document in Photoshop with the size 600 px by 850 px. Hold down the Alt key and double-click on the "Background" layer to unlock it. Double-click on the unlocked layer to open the Layer Style window and use the settings from the following image. For my gradient I have use the colors #000000 and #4e0404.

Step 2
Copy a vector from the Hoolanders vector pack and paste it into your Photoshop document. Chose to paste the vector as a smart object. Then use Free Transform (Ctrl+T) to resize the layer and to rotate it. Double-click on this layer to open the Layer Style window and use the settings from the following image.

Step 3
Now we are going to add some fire to our design. Open in Photoshop the fire images which you have downloaded at the begining of this tutorial. Then set the blend mode for each layer to Screen and use the Eraser Tool (E) to erase some parts of the fire layers (or you can use layer masks: Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal All). Take a look at the following image for reference.

Step 4
Duplicate the layer which you have created at the second step (the vector pasted from the Hoolanders vector pack) and put this new layer above all the other ones. Also, use Free Transform (Ctrl+T) to rotate it.

Step 5
Select the Brush Tool (B), open the Brushes palette and create a new brush using the settings from the following image. Then save this brush by clicking on the "Create new brush" button from the bottom of this palette.

Step 6
Create a new layer, set the foreground color to white and the background color to black and paint with the brush which you have created at the previous step on this new layer. Set the opacity for this layer to 70%. Then hit Ctrl+G to put the layer inside a group and set the blend mode for the group to Color Dodge.

Step 7
Cut the coke can from this image and move it into your first document using the Move Tool (V). Then use Free Transform (Ctrl+T) to rotate this layer.

Step 8
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Brightness/Contrast, check the "Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask" option and use the settings from the following image.

Step 9
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance, check the "Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask" option and use the settings from the following image. Then fill the mask of this layer with black and paint with a big white soft brush over the can's brims.

Step 10
Copy and paste a butterfly from the Butterfly vector pack into your Photoshop document. Name this layer "butterfly" and set its opacity to 80%. Then go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Brightness/Contrast, check the "Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask" option and use the settings from the following image.

Step 11
Create a new layer, select the Polygonal Lasso Tool (L) and create a selection like I did. Then fill it with white, go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and use the settings from the following image. Set the blend mode for this layer to Overlay and the opacity to 60% and name it "light."

Hi Friends,

In this tutorial I am going to show you how to create a dramatic fire eye in Photoshop. The technique which I am going to teach you is a quite simple one and I hope you will enjoy this tutorial.

Step 1
First, download this image and open it in Photoshop. If you have another similar image and you want to use it, feel free to do so.

Step 2
Use the Pen Tool (P) to select the eye like I did.

Step 3
Go to Select > Modify > Feather and use a radius of 3 pixels. Then hit Ctrl+J to make a new layer from what you have selected.

Step 4
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation, check the "Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask" option and use the settings from the following image.

Step 5
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Photo Filter, check the "Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask" option and use the settings from the following image.

Step 6
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves, check the "Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask" option and use the settings from the following image.

Step 7
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Brightness/Contrast, check the "Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask" option and use the settings from the following image.

Step 8
Ctrl-click on Layer1's thumbnail to select it and hit D and X keys to set the foreground color to black and the background color to white. Then create a new layer and go to Filter > Render > Clouds. Hit Ctrl+Alt+F a few times to increase the contrast of the clouds.

Step 9
With the selection still active, go to Filter > Render > Difference Clouds. Again, hit Ctrl+Alt+F until you get the effect you want. Then go to Select > Deselect. Change the blend mode for "Layer 2" to Color Dodge.

Step 10
Now we are going to add two more adjustment layers. Go to Layer > New Adjustments Layer > Photo Filter and use the settings from the following image. Then go to Layer > New Adjustments Layer > Curves and again use the settings from the next image.

Amazing Photoshop light effect in 10 Steps

When I added a “buy me a coffee” featured on my blog I decided to use an image I had done when I was showing my cousin how to do the Magic effect. Instead of using a hat I used a coffee cup and the process is basically the same, however this time I will explain it in more details.

Step 1

Create a new document, apply a Layer Style on the background layer. Add a Gradient Overlay and a Pattern Overlay.

Step 2

Here I've used an icon I found on a cool site, but you can use whatever you want.

Step 3

Select the Ellipse Tool (U) and create a shape like I did. After that apply a Gaussian Blur (Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur) with radius of 30px.

Step 4

Create a new Folder name it “Light Effects”. Change its blend mode to Color Dodge, and move the ellipse you created to this folder.

Step 5

In order to create the sparks we will use the amazing brush engine. Add a new layer, inside the “Light Effects” layer, set white for the color and follow the images below.

Step 6

Using the Layer Styles add a Outer Glow to the sparks

Step 7

Lets add some smoke. Create a new Layer, call it “Smoke”. Change its blend mode to Color Dodgeand select the Lasso Tool. Set 40px for Feather and create a selection like I did below. After that make sure that the foreground is white and the background is black and apply aFilter>Render>Clouds. Tip: Continue applying the filter until you get the best clouds.

Step 8

Add some text and using the Layer Styles again lets create a nice effect.

Step 9

Place your logo and you can even add more effects like I did on the Magic Lighting Effect, but then you will have to follow that tutorial ;).

Conclusion

I have to say, if you know a bit of Layer Styles and the Brush engine in Photoshop you will be able to create amazing effects. It will depend exclusively on your imagination and playing with the tool. Sometimes just changing a some settings and you get a totally different effect.

Sparkling Hot Girl in Photoshop

Anyway, in this tutorial I will show you how to create an image using this technique. It basically mixes some techniques from tutorials like Magic Lighting Effect, Amazing Photoshop light effect in 10 Steps, and the latest Create the MSNBC header effect.

Step 1

Create a new document, mine is 800x600 pixels. After that double click on the background layer to open the Layer Style dialog box and add a Gradient Overaly. Select Radial for the Style and use a dark red to black for the colors

Step 2

Select a nice photo, in my case an amazingly hot girl from the 30 Color and Pattern Inspiration Bikinispost. Select the Pen Tool (P) and start creating a path with the shape of the woman. Later we will convert this path to selection to mask the girl.

Step 3

After you create a path with the shape of the woman, go to the Path palette, right next to the Layer Palette. You will see the path with the girl’s shape. Click on the dotted circle icon at the bottom of the box to create a selection from the path.

Step 4

Back to the Layer Palette, select the girl’s layer and then go to Selection>Refine Edge. This command will allow us to adjust the selection in real time with some nice settings like feather, smooth, contras, and others. Make some tests with a black background. When you have a good selection click ok. After that go to Layer>Layer Mask>Reveal Selection.

Step 5

Lets increase the contrast of our girl, go to Image>Settings>Brightness/Contrast. After that reduce the layer like the image below. Then add a bit of noise. Filter>Noise>Add Noise.

Step 6

Group the girl layer so it will be inside a folder on the Layer Palette. Select the Elliptical Marquee Tool (M), set the feather option to 30px and create a elliptical selection like the image below. Nowselect the Folder instead of the girl’s layer and after that go again to Layer>Layer Mask>Reveal Selection. We will add the mask to the folder and everything inside the folder.

Step 7

Double click on the girl’s layer to open the Layer Style box. Select Outer Glow. For the Blend Mode use Color Dodge and for the size set 35px. After that Duplicate this layer and go toFilter>Blur>Motion Blur. Use 43º for the Angle and 155 for distance. Make sure that the blurry layer is behind the normal layer.

Step 8

Create a layer, not inside the folder anymore. This layer has to be behind the girl. Then go toFilter>Render>Clouds. Change the Blend Mode to Color Dodge.

Step 9

Create another layer, behind the clouds’ layer. Now go to Filter>Render>Fibers... Use 13 for the variance and 4 for the Strength. After lets add another filter, this time Motion Blur, go toFilter>Blur>Motion Blur. The angle will 90º and for the distance use more than 300px like the image below.

Step 10

First rotate the layer. Then select Lasso Tool (L) set 30px for the feather and create a selection like I did. Then one more time go to Layer>Layer Mask>Reveal Selection. After that double click the layer to open the Layer Style box. In the Layer Style’s first screen set the Fill Opacity to 60%, then add a Gradient Overlay, use the rainbow colors.

Step 11

Here it’s all about brushes. But first create a new Folder in the Layer Palette and set the Blend Mode to Color Dodge. After that create the layers you want to be light inside of this folder and using white color. You can even add some different shapes and apply gaussian blur to create those rays of light.

Conclusion

This is one of those designs that looks a bit complicated when we see it at first. But when you start working on it, it turns out to be much easier than we thought. You can add different light colors, more or less sparks, or even explode some parts of her body. Well that’s another tutorial I will write about.

Space Lighting

Space Lighting Effects in 10 Steps - Photoshop Tutorial

So in this Photoshop tutorial I will show you how to create a space scene with some nice Lighting Effects in 10 Steps.

Step 1

Create a new document, I'm using my computer screen's resolution (1440x900 pixels) so I can use it as a wallpaper later. Add a new Layer and fill it with any color then go to Layer>Layer Styles> Gradient Overlay. You can add a gradient layer as well, I simply prefer the Layer Styles.

Step 2 - Retro Colors

Create a new layer and fill it with white, then go to Filter>Render>Lighting Effects. Change the style to RGB lights. Use Negative 60 for the Intensity, Narrow 96 for the focus, and for the other options keep the same.

Step 3

Lets add some blur, go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. Use 80 pixels for the Radius. The last thing here will be change the Blend Mode to Overlay. Doing that the RGB color will be hardly visible but later on with the other layers it will work ;)

Step 4 - Creating Stars

Creating Stars in Photoshop is something really easy. Create a new layer, fill it with black, and change the Blend Mode to Screen. After that go to Filter>Noise>Add Noise. Use 10% for theAmount, Gaussian for the Distribution and select Monochromatic. You will have a layer full of noise, then to create the start just change the levels of the layer, go to Image>Adjustment>Levels.For the Input Levels use 65, 1.00, 99. Doing that you will increase the black so just the bigger dots will appear, also you will increase the white, making the dots that appear brighter.

Step 5 - Nebula

Now that we have the stars and the colors and some colors lets create the Nebula. To do that create a new layer and go to Filter>Render>Clouds. Make sure that your color were black and white for the background and foreground. Then just add some Layer Styles to do that go toLayer>Layer Style. First over the Blending Options, change the Blend Mode to Overlay. After that select Gradient Overlay. use Overlay for the Blend Mode and for the colors use a Cyan, Green, Yellow, and Red. Also change the Angle to 130º and the Scale to 49%.

Step 6 - Lens flare

First, lets create a new layer and fill it with black, however, this time, add this layer in front of the background and beneath the other layers: (Stars and Nebula). Now go to Filter>Render>Lens Flare. This effect might be the most overused ever, like some people even say that using it you wil turn your design in an amateur piece. For me it's a nice filter and, if you use it right, it will give a nice touch to your image. For the settings use 100% Brightness and use 105mm Prime for the Lens Type.

Step 7 - Rays of Light

Now lets create the "A" of ray of lights. So create a new layer in front of the Lens Flare. Then select the Rectangular Marquee Tool (M) and create a rectangular selection like half of the height of the document. Use the image below for reference. After that select the Brush Tool (B). We will use a very big brush, 800px diameter and hardness 0%. Select white for the color and with just like a a bit of the brush inside the marquee (red circle) give a few clicks on the mouse button.

Step 8

Now it's just about duplicating, resizing and rotating. The tip here is convert the original ray of light layer to Smart Objects, so you will be able to resize and rotate in a non-destructive way. After you create the "A", change the blend mode of the elements to Screen and use 80% opacity.

Step 9 - Adjustments

Now lets just adjust some opacities, change the the RGB light opacity to 80% and you can move the gradient overlay to test different color combinations as well.

Conclusion

In this tutorial we've learned how to create a very cool light effect that we often see is some of the NoPattern designs. Of course this tutorial was just an example and now you can improve it and apply it to your needs.
